elcome to the Gold of Eldorado!
Here's a variety called 'RAINBOW ROCK'. Some of these are too beautiful to be believed. Hopefully, you'll be able to see the mosaic of colors adorning the top, show face. It's parent was born in the Sierra Nevada cordillera. This mountain range isn't know for it's precious gemstones although, on occasion, some quality diamonds have been recovered. California's more famous for it's historic gold deposits. Judging from the massed veinlets of gold, the lucky miner who found the parent rock probably pinched himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming. Seeing cabs like this mounted inside karat gold settings validates their high value. Gem experts, the GIA folks don't consider GQ as 'precious gemstone', but it sure as heck isn't semi-precious neither. The matrix is wicked-rich in gold. If you're drawn to exotic GQ from the old wild west, welcome to the Gold of Eldorado. The top show face is domed, the backside flat.
As founder of this Ebay store, I've been finding and selling native gold and platinum products for over forty years. Back in the 80s and 90s, I was a full-time placer-miner. There's just something about hunting for gold and working with it. In looking back, maybe it was the lifestyle of a lone wolf prospector I enjoyed the most. Whatever your bliss, any normal (or abnormal) person can venture into the mountains scattered around the western U.S. mining states with a realistic chance of finding some serious gold. Now you may not find much, but I guarantee 'there's still gold in them thar hills."

s you stroll through my store, expect to find lots of useful prospecting information and stories based on my own goldfield experiences.
I
f you don't know much about gold, gold ores/gold quartz, lapidary, gemology, mineralogy, geology, or mining for gold; if you don't care for jewelry at all, just buy and cache this beautiful rock shot full of gleaming precious metal.
GQ
or 'gold quartz' is, basically, gold ore. When ore is rich and aesthetic enough, it becomes desirable as gemstone for jewelry. For hundreds of years, jewelers have been incorporating it into spectacular, karat-gold, works of art. Almost any kind of rock or semi-precious mineral can be cut and made into a cab. GQ is a different animal altogether because it carries the precious cargo, gold. You would not wish to crush this type of stone just to extract the gold from it. That would be akin to crushing gem grade diamond for use as an abrasive. Gem-grade gold quartz is as rare, precious, and beautiful a mineral complex
as you will find on the planet.

I
f you're unfamiliar with gold quartz, it's essentially gold ore...high-grade gold ore. When conditions are just right, metallic gold-crystals form (grow) in quartz veins. This occurs as ultra-hot, aqueous, silica and mineral-rich solutions cool. Metals, like gold, than precipitate and harden. This is part of a process known as metallogenesis. Natural weathering from richer portions of a gold vein ultimately produce broken-off pieces of gold quartz, nuggets, gold flakes, flour gold, and colloidial gold. Vein filling which retains host matrix (that is, quartz) and also harbors it's precious cargo, gold, and is dense enough, becomes one of the earth's more highly-prized gemstones. Then, just to liven things up a bit, the mineral characteristics of gold-bearing stone vary from vein to vein resulting in different matrix variations (i.e. color, density, et al). This stone is an outstanding example.

NATIVE MINERALS

Gold of Eldorado
feedback for disputes arising from non-authenticity of the specimens I sell. You won't find any. I deal in native minerals with visible gold, not replicas, not 'paint-ons'. I don't peddle 'simulated' specimens made with minute amounts of gold or no real gold at all. No fake nuggets here, folks. I was a professional placer miner myself and personally have bought stuff with gold painted on it. Some so-called 'natural gold quartz' specimens acquired had tiny chunks of placer gold glued into the vugs of barren rock. If folks want to fake their specimens, then it should be mandatory they advertise their products as simulations or replications. All of my advertised specimens, slabs, cabochons, gold ores et al are authentic and contain naturally-occurring, native gold and/or are composed almost entirely of naturally-occurring gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens). The purity of this gold will vary, but if it's from California, you can count on it being fairly high, from 70% to 90% pure on average. For comparision, a 14K gold wedding band is 58% pure gold. The origin of this gemstone is a vein system somewhere in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. of California.
Thanks for checking out our digs. I hope you find rich ground ahead.
